Caring for your Newly Installed Lawn

  • Once your new lawn has been installed DAILY WATERING will be required to ensure proper germination.
  • 1/4” of moisture per day will be needed to keep soil moist and more water may be needed during hotter months.
  • Germination with rye and fescue grass seed varieties will germinate within 7 to 10 days, while bluegrass seed varieties will take 12 to 15 days under optimum conditions.
  • Keep all traffic off a newly seeded lawn to help ensure uniform germination.
  • When the lawn is 6 to 8 weeks old fertilization will be needed to supply grass plants with needed nutrients for continued growth. If grass plants appear yellow it may be time to fertilize.
  • Mowing of lawn should occur as soon as the grass reaches a height of 3.5”. By mowing rye and fescue grasses that have emerged first, this will help promote the development of the bluegrass seeds.
  • Weed controls should not be applied until the lawn has been mowed at a minimum of three cuts in which a third of the grass plant was actually mowed.
  • It is not uncommon for some areas to have to be reseeded due to poor germination, washouts, traffic or the like. Please keep in touch with Lawn Tech and we will make every effort to touch up the areas as per the situation that has occurred. This work will be done at the discretion and timing of Lawn Tech.
  • The first year of you newly seeded lawn are the most critical to ensure a long and healthy life. Proper watering, fertilization and mowing will be the key to ensuring the lawn fills in properly and performs to its highest potential.
  • Ounce the lawn is established it should be mowed at 3”-3.5” as needed. Weekly mowing is common. Mowing twice a week may be needed at key times of the year as well.
  • BE PATIENT – grass plants take a long time to establish itself. Sometimes a newly seeded lawn can take 12-18 months before it completely fills in. Grass plants generally mature the second growing season and much improvement is noticed during this time to thickening of the grass and turf density.
  • Lawn Tech guarantees its work associated with lawn installations if proper care is taken as noted above.
