Mowing Tips

  • Recommended mowing height should be kept at 3″ – 3 1/2″ during spring, summer and fall.
  • Mower blades should be kept sharp at all times. Dull blades will cause shredding and browning of grass tips. Mower blades may need to be sharpened 2 or 3 times annually.
  • Return grass clippings whenever possible. Grass clippings have nitrogen content in them from fertilization and will provide additional benefits to the turf. Mulching mowers are recommended.
  • Mowing of lawn should be done on a regular basis. Weekly or biweekly mowing may be needed depending on fertilization and watering schedules. Frequent mowing will reduce grass clumping and a quicker breakdown of grass clippings.
  • During the last mowing of the season the mowing height can be lowered to 2″ – 2 1/2″. This will help reduce snow mold fungus, reduce matting and aid in a quicker green up in the spring.
